Frequently Asked Questions About Human Design

Human Design Frequently asked questions

This is a Quick-start Guide to Human Design.

Some of the most common questions asked about Human Design are:

  1. What is the Human Design System?

  2. What is my Human Design type?

  3. What does my Human Design Chart mean?

  4. What is a Human Design Reading?

  5. How do I get a Human Design Reading?

The most asked question is:

1. What is Human Design?

In a nutshell, it is a self-discovery, self-help, and self-growth tool.

Human Design is:

  • an easy way to identify the role or character you were born to play

  • a way to identify your purpose

  • a way to learn how to 'do' your purpose

  • an easy way to get along with the people in your life

Generally speaking, Human Design is a mashup of ancient philosophies and archetypes. These archetypes, characters, or roles are easily recognized because they are part of our collective consciousness.

Unfortunately, the understanding and practice of these roles have NOT kept up with our modern, industrial, and technical world.

  • We no longer share a common understanding of the roles we play in society.

The result is that everyone has a “feeling” that they are here for a specific reason, but they don’t know what it is.

Human Design identifies your reason for being here. It eliminates the guesswork.

It clarifies your purpose and tells you how to work it into your life’s decisions and your relationships.

It answers the questions:

  1. Who am I?

  2. Why am I here?

  3. What is my life’s purpose?

  4. How do I start “doing” my purpose?

The answers to these questions are possible when you know your Human Design.

  3. Time of Birth

  •  Download your chart and save it to your computer desktop and smartphone.

3. Get help understanding your Human Design Chart

Your Human Design chart is beautiful. It is abstract and colorful.

  • But what does it mean?

  • What do you do with it?

Let’s start with the basics.

Have a look at your chart and locate the major headings written on it.

These are your Keynotes. They are:

  1. Type

  2. Strategy

  3. Authority

  4. Profile

For now, and for the rest of your life, the most important keynotes to focus on are your Type and Strategy. Knowing these two things inside and out is the key to hitting the ground running with Human Design. – Click here for a breakdown of all 5 Human Design types and strategies.

Important Note:

For those of you who have the keynote Emotional Authority written on your chart, it’s important to know that you need to wait for some time to pass before making big decisions. This ensures that your decisions are accurate and solid before you make them.

4. Get a Human Design Reading

What is a Human Design Reading?

A traditional Human Design reading involves sitting with a Human Design expert and having them explain your chart to you. You can ask questions and get some guidance about how to start using your Design. Every specialist has their unique spin on Human Design readings. It is important to find a good fit when scheduling a Human Design reading.

My two cents:

I am a Human Design Reader. I have done many one-off readings for clients. I have experimented with many reading formats. I have learned that readings can be overwhelming. They can get in the way of the “doing” of your Human Design. You can come away believing your Design is too complicated and you'll never understand. More commonly, you can get stuck thinking you still don’t know enough and continue falling into research rabbit holes.

Is this you? If it is, the questions to ask yourself are:

Are you putting off the “doing” of your Design because:

  • you’re convinced it won’t work unless you know everything about it?

  • you simply don’t know what to do with the information?

Sidebar:

At one of my first Human Design readings, I was overwhelmed by the information. To this day, I have not listened to the recording that was provided. All I remembered was my type and strategy. – The best thing about that reading was that the reader gave me the space to cry with relief because now I understood why my life was such a mess. I now knew that I wasn't a freak. This lovely, caring person also gave me the room to vent about how hard my life had been up until I learned my Design. All important and good stuff.

What I didn’t get from that reading was the opportunity to follow up. I didn’t get cumulative, ongoing, specific, and practical advice about how to apply the information to my daily life. I learned my design by taking a lot of classes and making a lot of personal mistakes. The trial and error method worked for me because it is a part of my design and it is how I learn best. But, for most people, it can be a discouraging roadblock.

This is why I’ve added Human Design to the counseling and coaching work that I do. I teach people Human Design and I coach them in how to use it in their unique life.
