The Best Career For Your Human Design Type

People who are new to Human Design are asking what is the best job for my type. Which career am I suited for? Which business is right for me?

Let me first say that unless you have a deep understanding of your Type and what you are here to do… the best suggestions will be a struggle. Book a call if you’re curious about what I mean.

Also, to make sure you understand the basics of your type, watch this short video.

Okay, ready?

Here are a few suggestions and examples of jobs, careers, and businesses being done by Manifestors, Generators, Projectors, and Reflectors.

Manifestors

Strategy: I am. Therefore I do*

You may know that Manifestors can do whatever they choose to.

However, the best career for a Manifestor involves starting projects or consulting in an area of expertise.

Minimal outside input and control of your time and schedule are great career goals for Manifestors.

For example, one of my Manifestor clients is a psychologist. He provides expert opinions and strategies to litigation attorneys.

Another client is a doula and womb expert. In her business, she most enjoys creating podcasts and occasionally leading group discussions on WhatsApp.

I know a Manifestor who is a medical spa expert. She works with nurses, doctors, and businesspeople. She only offers 3-month contracts.

Generators

Strategy: I respond. Then I do*

The best jobs or careers for Generators make use of their work-horse energy. They love to work. The busier the better. When a Generator is focused and interested in something, they work hard to produce a first-class product.

Generators make great managers, team leaders, social advocates, personal assistants, and event planners.

I know happy Generators who are project and office managers, nurses, construction workers, personal trainers, coaches, medical doctors, non-profit general counsel, fashion designers, and stay-at-home moms who homeschool their children.

One Generator client opened and sold a successful donut shop. Now she works at a sailing company, lives on a boat, and is experimenting with becoming an expert sailor.

Another is an Osteopathic MD who designs systems and launches for innovators. After the launch, she becomes an ongoing consultant for the completed project. Then she moves on to a new client with a new innovation.

And another Generator I know opens new beauty and tanning salons. She furnishes, decorates, and stocks them. She hires and trains staff. Then she moves on and does it all over it again.

Manifesting Generators (MG)

Strategy: I respond and wait for my moment of truth, then I do*

The best careers for Manifesting Generators take advantage of their ability to manifest many things quickly. Like the Generator, they are work-horses, and like the Manifestor they can start projects and inspire action in the other Human Design types.

MG’s are often found in leadership positions.

It’s a challenge for Manifestors and MG’s to have micromanaging bosses.

They can be found among elite athletes, critical care nurses, search and rescue personnel, business owners, non-profit directors, serial entrepreneurs, politicians, and other community leaders.

MG’s are usually busy people who can juggle many things.

A past MG client of mine founded and runs a very successful online plant-based meal service.

Another has a full-time day job and is a part-time psychotherapist in the evenings.

Another, among several other things, is an event planner and DJ in Ibiza, Spain.

Sustainable energy Manifesting Generators often find it challenging to relate to Projectors and Reflectors who require more rest to function properly. And, vice versa. It’s the classic Aesop’s fable “The Hare & Tortoise.”

  • I am a Projector and I’ve worked with MGs on nursing teams and in my coaching and therapy practice. I know the mutual challenges. Their energy is sustainably fast and mine is not. Facts!

  • From a place of experience and wisdom, Manifesting Generators often choose careers that allow them to work independently. Or they have Generator middle managers.

For example, I have two MG friends who make audio and video recordings about their expertise. They only offer membership access and have very little face-to-face contact with their customers. - One is a fitness coach with many healing modality certifications, and another is a certified Human Design business coach with an MBA.

Projectors

Strategy: I am recognized, invited, and available, then I do*

The best jobs for Projectors take advantage of their ability to sense what’s missing and guide others toward their highest potential.

But what does that look like in the real world?

Projectors are well suited to be advisors, administrators, networkers, mediators, researchers, interviewers, organizers, and consultants. And let’s not forget therapists, coaches, and healers.

I’ve known joyful Projectors who are specialized nurses (i.e. travelers, educators, home health, hospice, ICU).

I've worked with Projectors who are college Deans and professors, recruiters, acupuncturists, fiber arts shop owners, actors, artists, homeschooling moms, fitness trainers, bloggers, prolific social networkers, YouTubers, spiritual advisors, healers, and coaches.

Reflectors

Strategy: I am called, I reflect, then I do*

Reflectors are barometers for the health of our relationships and community systems. They sample the energy around them and reflect the truth of what they see.

They are powerful resources for collective change and stability.

The best jobs for Reflectors involve group processes that strive for communal harmony.

Their value shines brightly in group initiatives that draw on global consciousness, community, and justice.

The Reflectors I have known are accountants, animal rescue advocates or shelter owners, project and office managers, and personal growth leaders.

So there you have it. Career suggestions and examples for the Human Design types.
